Holiday weekend, a drive around the neighborhood with the windows down, shops are open, the two-lane goes way out of the city, green crowds of trees on either side, old growth and new. A different route back, a bright low sun behind the multi-family apartment buildings, dogs and grandparents look out from porches and kitchen windows, now the street lamps hum and cast shadows of trees on the potholes and uneven sidewalks, soon the night sky will be silent and small.
